Currently we're seeing a trend toward simple living - and it’s easy to appreciate this one. Ridding our spaces and lives of excess stuff, downsizing, and connecting with the world around us are all popular right now. Let's honor this trend toward simplification - today’s recipes will only use one or two readily available oils; and they’ll also be recipes that are easy to remember and share as you connect and share with those around you.

The beauty of these recipes is that they appeal to those just beginning with dōTERRA® as well as to those who need a refreshing reminder of where they began - these recipes will help you to care for your skin as you wash your hands many times each day - keeping them from drying out and cracking is a must right now; more recipes to come on caring for our skin.

Let's go:

Hint: Make enough to store away in a jar to have on hand, just add the wet ingredients later!

STEP 1

Soak your hands in warm water with Lavender Epsom Salt.

  • 5 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup Epsom salt
  • 5 drops Lavender essential oil
Mix together Epsom salt and Essential oil in a metal or glass bowl, then pour into warm water. Soak your hands for 10-15 minutes or until your water cools off

STEP 2

Exfoliate with a sugar scrub

  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 10 drops of Ylang-Ylang essential oil

Mix in a glass or metal bowl - put a spoonful in your hand and rub hands together until sugar dissolves. Run under warm water and pat dry

STEP 3

Moisten

Moisturize with any of doTERRA's non-toxic hand lotions. The one above is fragrance free. Choose your favorite oil - I love to add Bergamot to my hand and body lotions

STEP 4

CUTICLE CREAM

Our cuticles need to be taken care of too. I love this homemade cuticle cream to bring moisture back to my nails. This essential oil cuticle cream can also be used on hands, lips, or anywhere with dry spots. Lavender and Myrrh are both reparative essential oils to the skin. Rub cuticle cream on your cuticles to keep them soft and healthy. Put the cream in an old sterilized jelly jar.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons shea butter

1 teaspoon beeswax

1 tablespoon Fractionated Coconut Oil

7 drops Lavender or Myrrh oil

Instructions

  1. In small glass container, combine shea butter, beeswax, and Fractionated Coconut Oil.
  2. Place in saucepan with 1–1 ½ inches of boiling water.
  3. Stir ingredients for 5–10 minutes until combined.Tip: Use a popsicle stick for easy cleanup.
  4. Once melted, remove from heat and let rest for three minutes.
  5. Add essential oils and stir.
  6. Pour into container and let harden for 2–3 hours.
  7. To use, just apply a small amount to cuticles and rub until absorbed.

SHAVING

FOR MEN

Cool Clean Shave Gel

you’ll need:

  • 8 ounce glass pump bottle
  • ¾ cup aloe vera gel
  • ¼ cup  olive oil
  • 3 drops lavender
  • 3 drops melaleuca

(Save and use an old sterilized glass spray bottle)

Using a small funnel in the mouth of the glass bottle, pour in the aloe vera gel and olive oil. After adding the essential oil, close the pump bottle and shake well. This gel is easy to make from scratch, and you can personalize it by switching out the essential oils for other favorite oils Keep this gender-neutral recipe on hand to maintain friendly relations between your skin and your razor. Trader Joes usually has aloe vera at a reasonable price. If you have a plant in your yard use that!

These recipes are so easy, it almost seems wrong. That’s probably because we’ve been conditioned to expect a complicated path to stand between us and a good thing. Not so with these mixtures or with dōTERRA in general! Return to square one of your oiling journey and enjoy the practical simplicity that essential oils bring to your daily life.
